Each bird is made by hand out of clay. They are colored with a special wax technique in rich red with the familiar markings of a cardinal, that black mask and bright yellow beak. The wax gives it an antique rustic feel. I enjoy paying special attention to each bird, giving them their own personality and smile. I just love all of their expressions! No two ever come out exactly the same, making each one extra special.


The birds are strung on a black waxed linen cord with beads, a branch and an cute little pinecone charm. The position of the branch makes it appear that the cardinal is resting in a pine tree. Some birds have beads in reds and greens, others in whites and pale blues. Cardinals are often that pop of red in a green tree or against white snow which inspired my color choices.
